Simmons Lab featured in the news for Health Disparities work.

A very nice article was written about the health disparities work that the Simmons Lab has been doing in the community in Duluth, MN. It is nice to have people recognize the effort and help to broadcast your mission beyond the walls of academia. The project described in the article is a collaborative project with a colleague, Dr. Olihe Okoro, in the College of Pharmacy. The project is an effort to improve health outcomes and health access to African American men by increasing knowledge of men and women on health issues that are specific to the African American man. It is a dynamic approach that emphasizes the family and community connections to create lasting positive changes in the health and wellness of community stakeholder. 2018 Whiteside Institute for Clinical Research Grant Funded!!!!!!!

The Simmons Lab has been awarded a Whiteside Institute for Clinical Research Grant for clinical collaboration with St. Luke's Regional Cancer Center. This grant will fund research looking into identifying new biomarkers for lung cancer. We are very excited about this opportunity to create new knowledge that can have a direct impact on patient outcomes in the state of Minnesota. What a way to start off 2018!

Start Spring with some sweat! Renovation Week 1

The lab renovations are finally getting to that point where you start to see the end in sight. I cannot say I have ever experienced such a long-delayed sense of gratification but this may be in the top 10 for sure. I am so glad that I was able to get the support by the administration to really commit money and resources to the success of my research program. This summer will be a definite game changer in my career and a big addition to the cancer research activity in Medical School Duluth. We will be scheduling tours soon, comment below if you are interested in coming to see the operation in action. The boxes just magically show up one day. The boxes kept showing up and piling up, this is a good thing, right? Oh boy, they have stuff inside the boxes, who would have thought? Don't forget to recycle.
